About the Programme

Ispa’s master’s degree in educational psychology addresses in depth not only the psychology of teaching and learning, but also issues related to populations with special needs, educational assessment, vocational and career guidance, and intervention with families and society, among other topics. Throughout the entire programme, solid theoretical training is integrated with practical know-how, to develop the skills required to apply the knowledge acquired.

Combining theoretical training with practice and case studies, the master’s degree includes a placement in a real-world context and the development of an original research dissertation.

Course Duration

The study plan has a duration of 2 academic years (4 semesters), totalling 120 ECTS credits.

Programme Objectives

  • To deepen knowledge of the theories, models, and techniques of Educational Psychology;To develop in students a reflective approach to Education through the presentation of theoretical models and the fostering of critical thinking, enabling them to carry out assessment and intervention in diverse educational contexts and processes;To promote the autonomous practice of Educational Psychology by developing competences that will allow future professionals to act not only within school environments, but also across a wide range of other contexts where teaching–learning processes and skills development take place;

    To enhance competences that enable the undertaking of research and intervention projects in the field of Educational Psychology, as well as to foster an ethical awareness that supports professional practice.

Engaging with education in all its complexity and diversity, across the many contexts in which it takes place, graduates may pursue careers in settings such as:

  • Public and private schools and kindergartens
  • Local authorities – various services (e.g. social action, education, culture)
  • Companies in the social and educational sectors
  • Social reintegration services and residential care centres for children and young people at risk
  • Day centres and senior residences
  • Private practice and services offering consultation and support for issues related to education and/or teaching and learning
  • Research centres and other institutions for research and/or intervention

This master’s degree Enables

  • Registration as a Junior Psychologist with the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association (OPP), as a step towards obtaining the professional title of Psychologist.
  • The practice of Clinical Psychology in public or private settings after obtaining the professional title of Psychologist, awarded by the OPP.
  • Access to 3rd cycle graduate training (Doctoral Degree / PhD).
