Meaning Reconstruction 70 Years Later: Life review playback theatre for older adults

Playback Theater offers a safe and creative environment for older adults to openly share their life stories and engage in dramatic creative processes. The utilization of Playback theater with older adults has been identified as an enjoyable intervention, facilitating the integration of participants’ life narratives and fostering a heightened sense of social connectedness. These transformative elements have also been associated with positive advancements in mental health indicators. This presentation aims to introduce an integrative model for psychotherapeutic Playback Theater designed specifically for older adults. This innovative approach combines the practice of life review with the expressive techniques inherent in Playback Theater. The lecture will be enriched with practical case studies and the latest findings from recent research endeavors.

Shoshi Keisari, é docente e investigadora na School of Creative Arts Therapies da Universidade de Haifa, em Israel, e é uma das criadoras e principais investigadoras na área do Teatro Playback Psicoterapêutico. Ao longo da última década, tem dirigido grupos terapêuticos neste formato, com particular foco no trabalho com adultos mais velhos. Coautora do, até agora, único livro relativo ao Teatro Playback Psicoterapêutico, publicou alguns dos artigos mais significativos sobre esta área em expansão.

Is Playback Political? (Playback Theatre and Social Justice) 

The project Dar Palco à Diferença (developed by dISPAr Teatro, ISPA’s theatre group, and financed by the EEA Grants program) is currently finishing the incubation of three new Playback Theatre companies within the scope of the work of different social justice associations and with the aim of taking the theme of Human Rights to Portuguese schools. This project is based on the belief that Playback Theatre is unquestionably political, a reading that is far from uncontroversial among the national and international Playback community. We will look at the two sides of this argument and analyze their respective merits (or lack thereof) to put forward a theory of the politics of Playback that may serve us in our Playback practice, both in its non-therapeutic and therapeutic forms.

Elsa Maurício Childs estudou Línguas e Literaturas Modernas e fundou e dirigiu a escola Verdes Anos. É fundadora do Projecto Eco e do InVerso (que dirige), coletivos de Teatro Playback com particular foco no trabalho na área da saúde mental e dos Direitos Humanos. Fez o último nível de formação (Leadership) em Teatro Playback com o Centre for Playback Theatre, nos Estados Unidos da América. É colaboradora da Escola Ibérica de Teatro Playback, com quem começou a sua formação em Playback no início de 2017. É fundadora e membro da Direção da Corda Teatro e do grupo feminista Eufémias, que programa o Festival Eufémia, em torno das questões de identidade e de género nas artes performativas.

A APPsyCI – Applied Psychology Research Center Capabilities & Inclusion está desenvolver um projeto de investigação/intervenção, denominado Teatro Playback Terapêutico: estudo de impacto, financiado pela FCT (2022.07713.PTDC), cujo objetivo é promover a introdução do Teatro Playback Terapêutico (TPT), em Portugal, enquanto instrumento de transformação dos indivíduos em grupo e conhecer os seus impactos nos participantes, as experiências vividas na sua perspetiva e os processos que justificam essas mudanças. O TPT é uma variante do Teatro Playback que assume objetivos terapêuticos, introduzido em Israel por Ronen Kowalsky, Nir Raz e Shoshi Keisari (2019, 2022) com a vantagem de integrar os benefícios das terapias de grupo e das Artes Expressivas de forma não patologizante.

Este projeto pretende desenvolver atividades de divulgação e disseminação abertas à comunidade, entre as quais este ciclo de conferências.
