The major objective of our research is the study of how social context constrains development. We think that the study of interpersonal settings is essential for understanding developmental processes that generate both communality and diversity in human adaptation. Developmental processes cannot be understood through singular analyses of preselected aspects of the social, psychological or biological functioning. Differentiating developmental pathways requires multi-dimensional classification with ecologically relevant variables in order to derive empirical categories of local norms that regulate adaptive processes for particular subgroups of people. Our research group is particularly interested in the study of attachment, peer group relations and socio cognitive development.
