:: Research interests I am a post-doc researcher at Unidade de investigação em Eco-Etologia (ISPA-IU) and the Museu Nacional de História Natural. My research deals with animal communication and migration. Currently studying the evolution of communication in acoustically complex environments. Especially in the context of parent-offspring communication. I am also involved in a project to study the impact of climate change in the reproduction of birds. Research lines: Climate and the reproduction of birds currently we are focus in the study of temperature variation inside the nests and the effect of the nest type in the influence of ambient temperature in nest temperature. Parent-offspring communication namely the signal honesty and the effect of the acoustic environment in the nestlings begging behaviour. Migration and wintering habits of gulls as phases of the annual cycle framed within the animals life cycles during their lifespan, namely the effect of age in the movement decisions of individuals. As a result of my curation responsibilities in the MNHN I am very interested in the preservation of our scientific heritage namely within my research areas, ornithology and bioacoustics. I am starting a research project in bioacoustics and bioacoustic monitoring and also aims to recovery of historical sound recordings.

:: Current research projects Post-doc at the ISPA Instituto Universitário and the National Museum of Natural History, University of Lisbon with the project entitled “Impact of climate change in incubation and thermal brooding of passerines” financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia SFRH/BPD/34846/2007. Member of the Unidade de Investigação em Eco-Etologia (Research Centre). Natural soundscapes in a changing world: Preserve the past and building the memories of the future. HC/0009/2009, duration 2010-1012 (125000 euros).In this project we are committed to value the scientific heritage produced by bioacoustic researchers during the second half of the republican 1st century, focussing primarily in the authenticity, provenance and historical reliability ensure its safe keeping for future generations, create an acoustic portrayal of Portugal in the present as a legacy for the celebration of the 200 years of the implementation of the Portuguese Republic. Finally and most important raise awareness in the general public for the importance of history of science and the scientific heritage in understanding the present and foreseeing the future. Using as examples the importance that past sound recordings can have in understanding the impact of climate change and/or habitat fragmentation on the biodiversity loss, for certain one of the biggest challenges humanity will face in the next 100 years.
